Ocean College Strengthened Ties with Australian and New Zealand Universities

From August 28th to 30th, Academician Du Jiangfeng, President of Zhejiang University, led a delegation to visit Australia, New Zealand, and Japan to further deepen the university's cooperation with the Asia-Pacific region. Prof.Qu Fengzhong, Deputy Dean and Deputy Secretary of the Party Committee of the Ocean College, joined the delegation on this visit to promote in-depth exchanges with relevant marine-related departments of the University of Sydney and the University of Auckland.

At the University of Sydney in Australia, Du Jiangfeng held talks with the university's president, Mark Scott, and the two sides signed a new university-level cooperation memorandum and strategic cooperation agreement. On behalf of the Ocean College, Qu Fengzhongtalked with the heads of the School of Earth Sciences and the School of Life and Environmental Sciences of the University of Sydney.and reached consensus in the potential areas of cooperation between the two sides, including strengthening communication, promoting student exchanges, and laying a solid foundation for disciplinary cooperation. During the visit in the University of Sydney, he also visited the Marine Science and Technology Laboratory.

At the University of Auckland, Qu Fengzhong held academic talks with Professor Conrad Pilditch, Director of the Institute of Marine Science of the University.They  reviewed the solid cooperation between the two parties. Since 2018, the Ocean College of  Zhejiang University and the University of Auckland have jointly organized summer schools for four consecutive years. 40 undergraduate and graduate students participated in the summer schools of marine sciences in 2018 and 2019. More than 100 students tookonline courses jointly organized by the two universities. During the meeting, the two sides discussed on further deepening the cooperation in education, teaching and scientific research, and reached a preliminary consensus on the joint program of marine science undergraduates, the new round  of summer schools, the sharing of marine science practice bases, and the establishment of academic exchange mechanisms.
