The Ocean College held an international academic seminar on "Marine Ecology and Blue Carbon"
On the morning of November 29th, at 9:00 am Beijing time, the Ocean College, jointly with the University of Auckland and the University of Sydney, held an academic seminar on Marine Science, Technology and Engineering. The first online academic seminar with the theme of Marine Ecology and Blue Carbon was successfully held. Experts and scholars from China, New Zealand and Australia gathered online to deliver academic reports and exchange ideas, jointly discussing issues related to marine ecology and blue carbon.
Qu Fengzhong, the Executive Vice Dean and Deputy Party Secretary of the Ocean College, attended the seminar to extend his congratulations. He reviewed the history of exchange visits with the University of Auckland and the University of Sydney, and introduced the educational operations of the Ocean College. He hoped that all parties would share research findings and exchange innovative ideas in the fields of marine ecology and blue carbon, further promoting international cooperation among the institutions. Professor Conrad Pilditch, the Director of the Marine Science Institute at the University of Auckland, introduced the development overview of marine science studies at the University of Auckland. He said that the seminar had enabled both sides to have a clearer understanding of each other's research, marking a new starting point for cooperation, and he looked forward to deeper and broader international cooperation in the future.
This seminar was hosted by Professor Zheng Daoqiong, the Assistant Dean of the Ocean College and the Head of the Department of Marine Sciences. Ten scientists delivered keynote speeches respectively introducing their latest achievements in fields such as the evolution of the global marine ecosystem, carbon emission reduction, and the frontier of blue carbon resource utilization. The participants engaged in lively discussions and in-depth thinking on the content of the reports.
The University of Auckland and the University of Sydney are important strategic partners of the Ocean College. In August of this year, Professor Qu Fengzhong accompanied the ZJU delegation on a visit to the University of Sydney and the University of Auckland, reaching a consensus with the two universities on strengthening communication, promoting student exchanges, and consolidating the foundation of disciplinary cooperation. The successful holding of this online seminar has not only built an efficient academic exchange platform for scholars from the three parties but also promoted cooperation in the fields of global marine ecological governance and blue carbon research.
