Faculty and Students from Ocean College Visited Malaysia for Exchange
From December 16th to 20th, Professor Zheng Daoqiong, Assistant Dean of Zhejiang University Ocean College and Head of the Department of Marine Science, led 17 undergraduate students on a visit to the University of Malaya in Malaysia for a short-term exchange program. The objective was to explore the university's progress in marine biology research, marine ecological protection, and marine resource utilization, while also strengthening academic and cooperative exchanges between the two institutions in the field of marine science.
On December 17th, students visited the campus of University of Malaya, where they were warmly welcomed by Professor Yvonne Lim Ai Lian, the university’s Vice President for International Exchanges. Professor Lim introduced the university's development history, talent cultivation programs, and international collaborations. On behalf of the Ocean College, Professor Zheng Daoqiong also represented the Ocean College to have discussions with Professor Lim Phaik Eem, the director of the Institute of Ocean and Earth Sciences at the University of Malaya, and Associate Professor Bong Chui Wei. The discussions centered around potential areas of cooperation, including enhancing academic exchanges, jointly organizing summer schools, and strengthening collaborative talent development initiatives.
Following the discussions, the students visited the RIMBA ILMU Botanical Garden and the Asian Art Museum at the University of Malaya. During the international student exchange session, the students from both institutions participated in ice-breaking activities to introduce their universities and share their cultures and educational philosophies. Subsequently, eight students from both sides presented their research on marine ecology, showcasing their work in areas such as marine microorganisms and blue carbon system mapping. Under the guidance of Associate Professor Law Peishan, the students also toured the university's microalgae and microbiology laboratories, and conducted practical exchanges in the mangrove wetland ecosystem at the Kuala Selangor Nature Park.
This exchange program has strengthened the collaboration between Ocean College and academic and research institutions along the Belt and Road Initiative. The college will continue to promote talent exchanges and scientific research cooperation with the University of Malaya, focusing on cultivating professionals in the fields of marine science and engineering.
