The final of the 14th Zhejiang Provincial College Young Teachers' Teaching Competition, which lasted four days, concluded in Ningbo on November 17. Co-hosted by the Department of Education of Zhejiang Province and the Zhejiang Provincial Education Union, the competition brought together 176 outstanding young teachers from 85 universities across the province to compete on the same stage. Wei Maoxing, Distinguished Researcher and PhD Supervisor of ZJU Ocean College, stood out with his excellent performance and won the Special Prize in the Engineering Group.

As one of the most influential competitions in the field of teaching among university teachers in Zhejiang Province, the College Young Teachers' Teaching Competition centers on teaching a course well and comprehensively tests the teaching ability and classroom performance of participating teachers. The course segment presented by Dr. Maoxing WEI was Marine Density Currents from Sediment Dynamics.

Starting with the university motto The vast ocean accommodates all rivers for its greatness, he vividly explained how turbid river water dives into the deep sea and becomes the deep-sea arteries shaping submarine canyons. Taking the scientific discovery history of density currents as a clue, he turned the class into an inspiring journey of scientific exploration.

The selection of this segment not only closely links sediment dynamics with deep-sea science and marine engineering practice, but also highlights the distinctive teaching orientation of Ocean College — rooted in the ocean and dedicated to deep-sea research.

Ocean College has always attached great importance to improving young teachers' teaching capabilities. The College Union and Teacher Development Center have established a four-level competition cultivation system (college → university → provincial → national) to provide targeted support for participating teachers in teaching design, classroom organization, ideological and political integration, technical application and other aspects.

The preparation training organized by the college is systematic and detailed. It not only helped me improve my teaching skills, but also enabled me to deeply understand the connotation of fostering virtue through education, said Wei Maoxing. I have taken the initiative to integrate value guidance into knowledge imparting, and inspire students' patriotism and scientific spirit in classroom teaching.

Driven by the systematic cultivation mechanism, young teachers of Ocean College have achieved remarkable results in various teaching competitions. Since 2018, the college has accumulated:

1 Second Prize at the National Young Teachers' Teaching Competition

2 Special Prizes at the Zhejiang Provincial Young Teachers' Teaching Competition

2 Second Prizes at the National Oceanography Teaching Competition

1 Special Prize, 3 First Prizes, 3 Second Prizes and 9 Third Prizes at the Zhejiang University Young Teachers' Teaching Competition.
