On November 21, ZJU Ocean College held a Fun Fire Safety Sports Event at the Zhoushan Campus stadium. The activity aimed to introduce fire safety knowledge in an engaging way, enhance awareness and skills in emergency response, self-rescue, and mutual aid, and strengthen winter fire safety efforts to further safeguard campus security.

The event combined practical training, entertainment, and interaction, featuring team relay competitions, individual contests, fire safety quizzes, and a “spot the hazards” challenge. The highlight of the event—the team relay competition—included five stages: hose passing, donning firefighting gear, fire extinguishing, coordinated evacuation, and casualty transport. More than 200 faculty members and students participated, demonstrating teamwork and practical fire safety skills. From hose passing to fire extinguishing, coordinated evacuation, and casualty transport, each team worked in close coordination amid an energetic and well-organized atmosphere.

The fire safety quiz and hazard identification zones also attracted many participants. Through instant-response quizzes, participants learned about fire prevention, early-stage fire handling, maintenance of firefighting equipment, and evacuation planning. By identifying hazards such as blocked emergency exits, improper use of high-power electrical appliances, and obstructed fire hydrants in images of laboratories, dormitories, and teaching buildings, participants gained greater awareness of potential risks in their surroundings.

“Fire safety used to feel abstract, but through the relay competition and hands-on activities like wearing firefighting gear and transporting casualties, we not only experienced the importance of teamwork but also learned practical skills,” said Li, a first-year postgraduate student from the Class of 2025.

The event represents an innovative approach to safety education, integrating teamwork, individual competition, knowledge testing, and hazard identification to strengthen safety awareness in a relaxed and engaging environment. The college will continue to innovate safety education initiatives and regularly organize safety-themed activities to build a secure campus.
