College Leadership Conducts Safety Inspections at Experimental Facilities

Safety is no trivial matter; responsibility weighs heavier than mountains. On December 2, Fangzheng FU, Party Secretary of the ZJU Ocean College, and Vice Dean Yibin ZHOU led a team to conduct a special safety inspection at experimental facilities on the Zhoushan campus. The inspection team visited laboratories for marine biology, marine chemistry, marine geology and resources, as well as the campus's public large-scale experimental facilities. They meticulously examined laboratory environments, equipment operation, safety facility provision and usage, inquired in detail about laboratory safety management practices, and offered valuable suggestions on strengthening risk prevention, identifying safety hazards, and addressing management gaps.
Fangzheng FU emphasized that production safety is the lifeline of the school's development. Given the large number of experimental facilities, demanding research tasks, and widespread distribution of spaces, the school must maintain constant vigilance on safety and ensure all safety management systems and operational requirements are rigorously implemented. While implementing safety accountability systems and fostering a secure environment, all laboratories must overcome complacency. With a sense of responsibility that leaves no room for complacency, they must strengthen routine supervision and inspections to ensure the safety of faculty and students and maintain the college's stability. The information-based safety management platform should be fully leveraged to achieve early detection, early warning, and early resolution of safety hazards. This will establish a comprehensive safety prevention system integrating human, physical, and technological safeguards, ensuring flawless laboratory operations.
During the inspection visits, college leaders also engaged with faculty and students conducting experiments, inquiring in detail about their research directions, experimental progress, and the difficulties and challenges encountered in their work. They encouraged everyone to embrace the “greater national interests,” focus on the strategy of building a maritime power, courageously explore the frontiers of marine science and technology, strengthen organized scientific research and innovation, and serve the development of the marine economy.
This targeted inspection and visit demonstrated the Party Committee's high priority and unwavering commitment to safety, conveying the leadership's care and support for frontline research and teaching staff. Faculty and students pledged to uphold safety standards, scale new heights in scientific research, and dedicate themselves to learning and research with renewed enthusiasm and rigorous diligence, embodying the founding mission of ''striving for maritime strength and pursuing excellence through steadfast action.''
