Zhejiang University Ocean College was officially established in December, 2012 to better serve and support State’s ocean strategy and echo local government’s requirements. “Integrated, Sustainable and Internationalized development” highlight the college`s philosophy. Ocean College utilizes the favorable policies of New Marine Economic Zone of Zhoushan and multi-disciplinary resources of Zhejiang University to establish a unique and comprehensive training system covering the undergraduate education, the postgraduate education, and the continuing education of high-level scholars, and to develop into the comprehensive research-intensive institute with distinguished features in marine science and ocean engineering.
There are two departments under Ocean College, namely the Department of Marine Science and the Department of Ocean Engineering. OC offers four undergraduate programs: Ocean engineering and technology, Port, waterway and coastal engineering, Marine science and Naval architecture and ocean engineering. OC provides two primary disciplinary master programs and five secondary disciplinary doctoral program.
Research institutes in Ocean College includes Institute of Marine Geology & Resources, Institute of Physical Oceanography, Institute of Marine Biology & Natural Products, Institute of Marine Chemistry and Environment, Institute of Island and Coastal Research ,Institute of Port, Coastal and Nearshore Engineering ,Institute of Underwater Technology and Institute of Naval Architecture & Ocean Engineering.
A new campus, exclusively for Ocean College, is put into use at the island city of Zhoushan, Zhejiang Province. Zhoushan campus covers an area of 191,636 square meters(56 hectares), including 167,624 square meters above-ground and 24,012 square meters underground area. Zhoushan campus will be equipped with world-class laboratories and state-of-the-art experiment and facilities.

In the purpose of further facilitating talents coming to China for their academic pursuit, Chinese government together with the Sate Oceanic Administration jointly set up the Marine scholarship of China for the purpose of providing financial support to outstanding students from the coastal countries or regions around the South China Sea, the Pacific and the Indian Oceans and African developing countries to study in China for a master’s or doctoral degree in oceanography or other related specialties, cultivating advanced professionals of the related fields for developing countries, enhancing international marine cooperation and exchange, and promoting the harmonious ocean development in the region and around the world.
